Governance
UBC Properties Trust reports to the UBC Board of Governors through UBC’s Vice President, Administration & Finance, who also administers contractual development duties and tasks.
Pursuant to the University Act, the UBC Board of Governors provides governance for all academic development activity on campus, while the GVRD regulates non-institutional development activity on campus, pursuant to the Local Government Act.
UBC Properties Investments Ltd. is the trustee of UBC Properties Trust. The trustee operates with a Board of Directors currently comprising eight outside directors and three members of the UBC Administration, including the President of UBC. The outside Directors are chosen to represent their respective areas of knowledge and expertise.
Members of the Board of Directors also comprise other committees that govern the operation of UBC Properties Trust. The Compensation Committee review and approve all senior level compensation packages (including the CEO). The Audit Committee ensures proper systems and controls are in place to accurately record transactions and safeguard assets. They convene at least twice a year to review and consider significant audit and accounting issues of UBC Properties Trust. UBC, as the sole shareholder, also hires an independent professional to interview each Board member to ensure there are no conflicts of interest in any of our business dealings.
