In its commitment
to reduce the impact of UBC's growth on adjacent neighbourhoods,
UBC Properties Trusts' project management team now includes
a transportation consultant (GTM Consulting) that will implement
the University's Truck Traffic Management Plan. Through
regular monitoring of truck traffic to and from campus the
consultant will ensure that the effects of heavy truck volume
will be minimized.
The Truck Traffic
Management Plan is comprised of the following key features:
-
Compliance
with all City of Vancouver truck bylaws (including tarp
requirements and noise requirements), Ministry of Transportation
regulations, and the traffic management requirements
in UBC's Strategic Transportation Plan.
-
Truck traffic
dispersed over all designated truck routes on the west
side of Vancouver.
-
Scheduled truck
arrivals and departures for more evenly distributed
truck traffic throughout the day.
-
A full-time
inspector who monitors truck traffic arriving at UBC.
-
Incentives
for contracts to reuse materials, and thereby reduce
truck traffic.
-
Regular public
notices and communication regarding upcoming road closures,
truck routing changes and other important activities.
-
Daily monitoring
and weekly reporting regarding truck activity, compliance
with requirements, forecast of future truck activity,
impending changes and other truck management issues.

Management Plan Fact Sheet.
