UBC Properties Trust oversees new residential neighbourhoods' infrastructure
and public realm development; including road works, servicing upgrades, and
traffic and safety improvements.
In the Hawthorn Place Neighbourhood, amenity improvements included the design
and construction of the Mid Campus Park, with its active and passive spaces,
and The Mainway, which provides an enhanced pedestrian and cycling experience
along Main Mall through Hawthorn Place.
UBC Properties Trust initiates proposal calls to developers on residential land,
which will be leased for market housing. Successful developers eventually enter
into a 99 year prepaid lease with the University as landlord. Net proceeds from
these leases contribute to University endowments.
