Aquatic Ecosystems Research Laboratory

The Aquatic Ecosystems Research Laboratory (AERL) is a 53,000 square foot, four storey facility that brings three existing research units under one roof: the UBC Fisheries Centre (FC), The Institute for Resources, Environment and Sustainability (IRES) and the B.C. Fisheries Research Unit (BCFU). The units have close ties with senior scientists at Canada’s Department of Fisheries and Oceans, many of whom are adjunct professors at FC and IRES. The new building houses both wet lab and dry lab facilities and includes an Immersion Lab that will analyze real-time dynamic modeling of complex ecosystem behaviour. In addition to these research facilities there are offices, a lecture hall, a library and meeting rooms.
